WTF?

Posted by Hello
I wanna know why the Polish neighbors keep throwing their chicken bones over the fence. Is it to kill our dog and cats? Some crazy custom? Or are the grandkids just getting rid of some vile food? Regardless, Fife ate a bone today, and it is a good thing he doesn't chew his food.

The only issue with them being Polish is that they don't speak anything other than Polish. Thus, I cannot tell them outside of pantomime, (which, as I am thinking of it, could be rather funny), that there is an issue.

So here's the pantomime: flap like a chicken, then throwing motions near the fence, shaking head no, bark like a dog, then make choking sounds with my hands around my neck and again with the no and another chicken flap for good measure.

hahaha! I think that it's a polish thing to keep away bad luck...like having your own little shrine in a converted backyard outhouse in which to perform self-flagellation.
Well, I don't know that he beats himself, but he does something in there.

Here’s a polish translation (1-800-translate.com) you might try on them…maybe print it out and hand it to them to see what they say?

Please don't toss the bone of chicken over fence

The next door neighbors to my pre-school sacrificed goats in their backyard!!! I guess it happened once in full view from the tree house, traumatizing some poor preschooler. From that time on, during each playtime, a parent-helper had to stand watch and sound an alarm if they saw signs of another sacrifice taking place. True Story I shit you not. I haven't thought of it in years, not until reading your post that is. Thanks for the reminder jkf.
